Dahlonega has quietly become the wine tasting room capital of Georgia, and the best way to see why is to give it a full weekend. Here is how we would spend one, if we were not already lucky enough to live here.
Saturday: The Tasting Room Loop
Start close to home. Doghobble Wine Farm, an 80-acre working vineyard on the Dahlonega Plateau, sits less than two miles from our front gate, with Big Creek Distilling Co. pouring small-batch bourbon and gin right alongside it. From there, head out along Highway 52, where Wolf Mountain Vineyards, Three Sisters Vineyards, Frogtown Cellars, and Montaluce Winery form a working cluster of award-winning stops within a short, scenic drive of one another.
If you want a view with your glass, Cavender Creek Vineyards and Kaya Vineyard & Winery both perch high above the valley, about ten minutes from town, with panoramic looks at the Blue Ridge.
Sunday: Slow Down
Save the second day for town. Walk the historic courthouse square, duck into the gold museum, and grab coffee before an easy morning at Amicalola Falls, the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi and less than thirty minutes away.
Every one of these stops is a short drive from 24 Bayberry Lane. Once our cabins open, this loop will not require a hotel off the highway. It will start and end at the property.
